"I had asked Kim and Sandra to pack up my 86 year-old mother for a move out of her apartment into a seniors' residence. With me living in Ottawa & my mother in Oshawa - it fell to Kim and Sandra to handle the on-site details.
It wasn't just what they did – it was the way they did it. Thoughtful, considerate, patient – they discussed with my mother what she could and couldn't take and how she would like items disposed of. Beyond that, they reassured her that everything was being taken care of, that she was not to worry and that they would coordinate her move into the residence. They remained focused, professional and fully aware of the need to control costs and minimize disruption.
On moving day, Kim and Sandra were not only on hand at the new residence to direct the movers, but also unpacked every box and unwrapped every item. They even arranged for a cleaner to clean Mother's old apartment.

Perhaps you’ve read my testimonial on this website about how Kim & Sandra moved my Mom out of her apartment into a retirement residence in May 2006. Well – now comes the second part of this story.
By July 2008, it became clear that Mom had to move out of the retirement residence to a nursing home. Once again, I asked Kim & Sandra to come to the rescue and, of course, always on short notice. This proved to be a challenge since there clearly was no room in the nursing home for all the belongings that Mom had had at the retirement residence. With their usual sensitivity and high regard for personal belongings and keepsakes, Kim & Sandra carefully sorted, packed and downsized – much going to Goodwill, some into temporary storage and the rest to the nursing home. This move was particularly demanding since the retirement residence was in Whitby and the nursing home in Port Hope.
Mom moved into a double room in July, but it became clear very quickly that a private room was necessary for everyone’s peace of mind. Yet again, Kim & Sandra were called on short notice in September to move Mom into her new private room. By this point, Kim & Sandra knew all of Mom’s possessions down to the last lamp, table, and chair and with their characteristic efficiency, had the temporary storage locker emptied and Mom well established – all within half a day.
However, Kim & Sandra were not yet quite off the hook. The final call for their services came in June 2009 when Mom passed away. The nursing home required the room to be cleaned out as soon as possible, and gave us a 48 hour deadline. For Kim & Sandra, this meant reorganizing their schedule, and making all of the necessary arrangements. Having known Kim & Sandra for three years – I had come to trust their judgment and abilities implicitly; and so, not able to be there, my instructions were simple; save anything you consider to be of value and dispose of the rest.
The chapter was closed with Kim & Sandra attending my Mom’s funeral service in Port Hope. Always going beyond that which would normally be expected or even hoped for, these two ladies have, over a period of more than three years, not only provided an absolutely essential service to me and my family – but established a bond with my mother that helped immeasurably in getting her through some of the most wrenching moments of her life.
For those reading this testimonial – the decision to use Organizing Lives should always be viewed through the lens of service, compassion, understanding, and trust. The issue of cost should always be secondary. I cannot recommend Kim & Sandra too highly – their services were invaluable.
